Assignment 10.1 - Class Comments

It was so hard to choose seven! Everyone in this class rules!

This is comment on Mila's digital collage. With this particular piece, I really responded to the hand-made aesthetic of it, even though it was a digital piece. It was a great example of how expansive digital collage can be as a medium, especially with the integration of "hard" or non-digital materials.

I loved loved loved loved Jiwon's stop-motion. I could have watched a whole series about those frogs. I could see them somewhere in the universe of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Jane's work is super joyous, and this piece is no exception. I really appreciated that this project was a re-entry into Illustrator after some time, and opened up graphic possibilities.

This is my response to Chloe's stop-motion project. I knew Chloe studied and taught Animation but I didn't know she was an Animation WIZARD! The jump from the iPad to the sketchbook really expanded the conceptual possibilities of stop-motion for me.

I thought that Cheyenne's graphic piece was conceptually thoughtful and brilliantly executed! I really appreciated how she made a connection to the classroom in her reflection – it got me thinking about how graphic design is a great medium for students to engage in research about causes/issues of sociopolitical relevance and look at how they can use design to elevate awareness.

I told Chenyu in person that I really liked this piece but I stumbled over my words and accidentally told her "I love your boyfriend," which lead to some major hilarity. Gaffe not withstanding, I really appreciated that this piece gave us a really clear idea of who her boyfriend is, and his interest. Love the contemporary adaptation of Bauhaus concepts, and the colors she used are my favorite colors in all the world.

This was my response to Brigid's stop motion video. She masterfully crammed a whole cinematic narrative into a fairly simple set up. Plus, a cliffhanger! Was the jockey okay? Did the horse keep running to win the race on their own? What chaos ensued in the next scene?! This was a really expansive use of stop-motion.
